prerequisites
1
THE DISCRIMINATION

Albinos in Africa, especially in its Western part, are getting excluded from the society on permanent basis. The main reason for such an exclusion is lack of knowledge about the albino phenomenon inside indigenous society. As a result, the majority of local people are acting scornfully towards albinos, preventing them from basic social life.

2
THE DANGER TO LIFE

Situation is also getting worse because of the following fact - mystical beliefs about special “magic” power in albinos bodies cause massive rape, crippling or even killing of albino adults and kids. Some families due to extreme poverty simply sell their kids and literally turn them into slaves.

All in all, albinos life in Western Africa is totally devalued and is at the edge of constant danger and insecure.

3
NO MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

All albinos in Western Africa challenge difficulties trying to get access not just to social life, but also to economic resources and medical assistance.

Albinism requires special care as it is always accompanied with weak eyesight and highly sensitive skin. As even basic medical care in Africa is on insufficient level, albinos who don’t have access to any of social services suffer disasterously.

Creating conditions for albino children integration into social life

Charity foundation “Mila for Africa” in the person of its founder Mila Anufrieva along with National Association of Albinism in Senegal (“ANAS”) represented by Mohamadou Bamba Diop have united to build a new center in Dakar city (Senegal).
One of the main goals of this center will be dedicated to albino kids.
As kids with different physical appearance in a place like Africa they challenge huge problems with social integration since very childhood.
Other kids don’t recognize them as equal and, therefore, don’t allow them to be a part of their society. This problem follows albinos throughout all their life, makes it much worse and, unfortunately, is fully ignored by the government.
It could be stated that the absence of any special structures aimed to to support albino children with education, social and medical care is a direct way to marginalization.
Albinos since their very childhood become invisible for the society and very vulnerable.
For realizing our goals, we have put the initiative to develop a project for school and social reintegration for albino children. Involvement such kids into educative and socially-oriented activities includes more individual work depending on every kid’s mental and physical condition.
